While Puerto La Boca offers a number of classic cocktails, such as a Manhattan, Negroni, and Mint Julep, we're also pleased to feature several signature Argentinian cocktails. These tend to be less spirit forward, often featuring selections from our complementary Argentinian wine list. Here are our favorites.
Fernet con Coca
The Italian amaro drink fernet has long been popular in Argentina, and has become especially so over the last decade. On its own, the herbal liqueur is commonly taken as a digestif, served straight up or over ice. But sometime in the mid-1980s, bars in Córdoba started serving fernet con coca — mixing the liqueur with Coca Cola — and the drink quickly took off, exploding in popularity throughout the country. The simple cocktail starts by pouring a portion of fernet over ice, and finished by slowly adding two portions of cola. The mix of herbs found in fernet — typically chamomile, cardamom, and saffron — blend well with the essential oils and hint of vanilla and nutmeg thought to comprise the cola's "secret recipe."
Beso de Frambuesa
Argentina's thriving wine industry produces a number of wonderful varietals, many featuring grapes that are difficult to grow in other regions. The most famous of these is the red wine varietal, Malbec, which has put the nation on the oenophile map. It's one of the wines featured in the rosé blend by New Age, an Argentinian label with global popularity, that is featured on our wine list at Puerto La Boca. In our Beso de Frambuesa, the raspberry aromas prevalent in the Malbec and Merlot blend are enhanced with a splash of the French raspberry liqueur, Chambord, and served in a champagne glass.
Tincho
While most of Argentina's wines veer red, the best known exception is the Torrontes white wine varietal. That's the chief ingredient in New Age's white wine offering, comprising 90% of a blend with Savignon Blanc. It's semi-sweet, with intense floral notes to go along with stone fruit and citrus flavors. The latter get a boost in Argentina's most famous wine cocktail, affectionately known as the Tincho, after the man who created it. In it, the slightly sparkling white wine blend is poured over ice, then served with a squeeze of lime.
